St. John’s, Antigua – Moving swiftly into the fourth week of competition, football action in the “Zone” has gotten really dicey among the rivals and some unexpected results caught us by surprise. Swetes and Pares scoring 10 while Villa and Tryum are 5 points ahead of the pack. Let’s take a look:

In Zone A:

Harney Motors Tryum FC and Villa Lions FC are the only unbeaten teams after 4 weeks of scheduled matches. Both clubs are first and second place respectively on 12 points with Tryum having the better goal average.

Earlier this week Tryum ill-treated the visiting ABAYA FC squad to a 2-0 defeat while Villa beat Bethesda 3-0 in their own backyard.
The competition is now right on its edge as both teams will face each other next week in what may very well be the biggest “Clash of the Titans” match in this particular zone.

The last time these two teams met was at the Premier Division in 1996. Both teams are keen on returning to the top but as rivals for the Title in the very same zone, well…., let’s wait and see.

Further on In Zone B:

Goals fell like rain yesterday when Swetes FC showered neighbours John Hughes FC with 10 goals to nil. This brought the total number of goals scored by all the clubs in Zone B to 92, 24 goals more than in Zone A.

Swetes provided their fans with a pair of hat-tricks each from Akeem Weeks and Kimoi Alexander while Gavin Richards added to the score line with a brace. Lindon Goodwin and Devaugn Thomas both joined in with one a piece.

Manager Ray Anthony indicated that his club is getting close to full strength with the return of a number of key players who have plied their trade at other clubs. He also indicated that management team and staff including head coach John Lloyd will be eager to face Young Warriors in search of yet another victory towards the title race.

Swetes now moves to the top of the table with 10 points from 4 matches after an unfortunate 2-2 draw against Pares FC earlier. Coincidentally Pares also recorded 10 goals last week against bottom of the table Shotguns FC.

Freemansville SC, still flawless after 3 games are second in the standings on 9 points, still have a game in hand and could eclipse Swetes when they Young Lions FC at Old Road this Friday.

Pares are currently in 3rd place but that could easily change with the other teams right on their heels aiming to advance.
