St. John’s, Antigua – The ABFA Female League kicked off week 2 at the Ottos Rangers field, with Jennings Challengers defeating Lady Bullets 6 – 0, Champions Empire Star Girls handing a 5 goal defeat to Lady 5 Ps and finally Lady Hoppers go down 1- 0 to Town House Megastore Ottos Tigress.
Jennings Challengers 6 – 0 Lady Bullets
We start off in a wet and muddy affair as Jennings Challengers defeated Lady bullets 6 – 0 in the first match of the day. Scoring started in the 24th minute for Jennings when national midfielder Kitanya Hughes slotted home the opening goal. The second goal of the first half came from Joan Shaw in the 29th minute of play then Nakita Marshall in the 45th. Scoring continued in the second half for Jennings as Kazelyn Smith followed in the 47th, Melissa France and Nahejah Branch scored in the 58th and 65th respectively.
Empire Star Girls 5 – 0 Lady 5 Ps
Defending champions Empire Star Girls stamped their authority with 5 – 0 defeat to Lady 5 Ps in the second match of the day. Samantha Harrison opened the scoring in the 33rd minute of play, then Karen Warner followed up with a double strike in the 38th and 40th minute. Star Girls continued the dominance during the second half as Denishia Wilson scored an own goal in the 57th and Nicole Stewart finishing scoring in the 60th minute of play.
Lady Hoppers 0 – 1 Ottos Tigress
The feature match of the day saw Lady Hoppers go down 1 – 0 to Ottos Tigress in an intense matchup. Both teams displayed good football at times in the tough conditions but early opportunities were squandered for Lady Hoppers in the opening minutes of the match. But the deadlock would be broken in the 25th minute as good work from Mishka Diaz saw Hoppers custodian Charlene Henry bring down the striker for a penalty.
National Midfielder Portia Davis would score from the spot to give her team a 1 – 0 advantage in the first half. The Second half of the match would prove to be frustration for Lady Hoppers, as Tigress defending in numbers and kept an organized back line all match which lead them to their first 3 points of the season.
