Football Action weekend wrap-up

St. Johns, Antigua – The Antigua Recreation Grounds was filled with excitement and drama over the weekend. The ABFA Premier League provided great football excitement and even a few upsets to please the fans.

The action kicked off on Football Friday as Asot’s Arcade Parham continued their movement to the top of the table as they defeated Willikies F.C 2 goals to nil. The men from the East provided a few early scares but failed to score in the match.

In night’s feature encounter Sugar Ridge SAP.FC defeated bottom of the table Potters Tigers F.C 3 goals to nil after full time. Potters Tigers shocked Sugar Ride SAP F.C early in the match as they were given a penalty but SAP F.C kept a level head and came out victors after 90 minutes.

On Premier League Sunday the first teams to kick-off were All Saints United and Lime Old Road. The returning champions failed to impress in the first half as it remained scoreless. In the second half both teams  began to create chances but it was  All Saints United who were able to secure 2 goals on the back-to-back champions.

The match ended with All Saints United 2 Lime Old Road 1 as this was set to be the first upset of the day.  

 The second match saw Bassa S.C vs. Sanipro Fort Road F.C, the young Bassa  team had lots of Cinergy and were able to connect 3 times before the half with the first goal coming  from a free kick outside the 18 yard box. The free kick went through the Fort Road defence wall to the amazement of the crowd.  

As both teams returned for the second half of play it was Bassa who were able to connect once more sealing a 4-1 victory over Forth Road.

The feature match up saw the second upset of the day with  Cool and Smooth/ Argos Greenbay Hoppers  versus Bargain Motors Grenade F.C. The excitement was at its peak as the whistle blew, as Grenades were successful in striking twice before the half to please the fans and confuse the top of table Hoppers team.

The Greenbay men had numerous chances  but could not connect even after receiving a penalty in the first half.  In the second half Hoppers penetrated grenades defence but never looked threatening as Grenades were very organized on the night.

Bargain Motors Grenades F.C then answered twice to pull the lead further and creating a victory over Greenbay Hoppers who at that point were totally out of the game. The match ended Bargain Motors Grenades F.C  4 -1 Cool and Smooth /Argos Greenbay Hoppers F.C.
