St. John’s, Antigua – The first ABFA Grassroots Festival of 2014 started off with a bang. The festival was held on Saturday 22nd March and showcased over 200 of the islands’ young footballers, learning the game while also having fun.

It was an early morning start in the beautiful coastal village of Old Road. The young footballers from grassroots centers across island jumped out their buses in excitement. After receiving their grassroots gear the children lined up in their respective age groups and began training.

The large groups did many drills which entailed passing, shooting, dribbling and basic techniques. ABFA executive member responsible for managing grassroots Ruby Williams, was filled with joy as the large turnout was some what a surprise.

“We usually see around just over 100 kids attending the organized festivals and to see so many young boys and girls coming out this morning was every encouraging.” Said Williams.

The Grassroots Festival was first of many as the ABFA will be touring all the villages throughout year, building the next generation of footballers in Antigua and Barbuda. The next stop for the ABFA Grassroots will be in Bolands Village on April 26th, 2014.
