ST JOHN’S, Antigua – LIME Old Road are off to a rousing start in the 2011/12 imobile/OBSERVER Media Group Premier Division football competition as they rallied to a 4-0 victory over former champions Cool & Smooth Empire on Saturday night.
Contesting the second game of a double-header in front of an encouraging turnout at Sticky Wicket Stadium, Old Road were led by national and Antigua Barracuda FC striker Stephan Smith who had the league’s first hat-trick, scoring in minutes 14, 45 and 51, respectively.
Smith, who was named the 2010/11 ABFA Player of the Year, was assisted by St Kitts & Nevis’ and Antigua Barracuda FC midfielder Orlando Peters who had opened the team’s scoring in the 11th minute.
Meanwhile, in Saturday’s opening contest, Sea View Farm enjoyed a one-nil victory over Premier Division newcomers Pigotts Bullets.
The lone goal of the contest came from national and Barracuda player, Kemoi Alexander, who capitalised on a defensive mix-up to push a close range effort into the back of the empty net.
The competition continued yesterday with a double-header.
Bassa and Sugar Ridge Sap played to 1-1 draw in the opening match. Darren Stevens scored in the 3rd minute before Sap’s Trevor Tonge equalised in the 21st minute.
Defending champions Asot’s Arcade Parham faced All Saints United in last night’s feature match.
