Premier League Football Week 4 Wrap-up
St. John’s, Antigua – The excitement on and off field at the Antigua Recreation Grounds over the weekend was enough to satisfy any football fans appetite. The party stand is being talked about and the fans are asking questions.
The party was already in session at the ARG as it was all about football action. Whether its Town vs. Country , Town vs. Town or even Country vs. Country, was filled with excitement. The Teams were given the opportunity to bring along a DJ to hype their fans.
The first match up on Football Friday saw All Saints United taking on Potters Tigers in the 5pm kick-off. Both teams were searching for their first victory of the season as the premier league table was started to take its usual shape.
The match saw both teams equally matched up in the first half, until All Saints United struck first with Randolph Burton in 16th minute. In the Second half Potter Tigers came out positive trying to serve balls to national Striker Lloyd Jeremy. But the men from All Saints once again scored in the 63rd minute as Mikey Lewis converted from close range.
The match ended with All Saints United claiming their first win of the season, while Potters Tigers reaming bottom of the table still searching for a point.
The feature match on Football Friday saw Greenbay Hoppers F.C vs. Asot’s Arcade Parham F.C in the 7PM match. The feature encounter was build up to be a nail biter for the fans especially with veteran striker Gason Gregory in Parham’s line-up.
During the first half Parham’s defence seemed to be impenetrable, while the keeping techniques of Hoppers goal keeper Omarie Joseph proved to be enough to block all of Parham’s early attempts.
The second half opened and Hoppers were on the attack once more trying to keep momentum of the game. The deadlock was broken in the 70th minute as left back Omari Daniel scored from a long throw sent in from Tamarley Thomas. The match ended with Hoppers F.C claiming a narrow victory.
On Triple Header Sunday the 3PM match saw Greenbay Hoppers F.C vs. Potters Tigers F.C. The Tigers who came out aggressive in the match, surprisingly not allowing Hoppers to get a momentum in the match. The problems for Hoppers F.C began when star midfielder Eugene Kirwan was sent off in the 18th minute.
After the sending off Hoppers F.C reorganized and struck first with a strike from Lennox Julian. But the celebrations were short lived as Llyod Jeremy equalized for the Tigers. The second half told a different tale as Hoppers F.C scored early in the second through captain Tony Thomas. Jamoy Stevens then added another goal as the Greenbay men went 3 -1 up.
Lloyd Jeremy added another strike to his season tally to give Hoppers F.C uneasy feeling. Nerves were then settled as two late strikes from Tamarley Thomas ended the match 5 -2.
The second match of the meeting was Parham Vs Forth Road, both teams had good opportunities to score but Parham was more aggressive in scoring 3 goals over Forte Road’s lone strike register their first win of the season.
The Feature match of the evening saw All Saints United take on Bassa S.C in the All Saints Derby. Although the match was expected to be a tight affair, Bassa S.C came out the aggressor scoring five goals against a struggling All Saints United.
