On Sunday, the Lady Bobcats traveled to Albany to face the Albany College of Pharmacy (USCAA ranked # 8). For our team, this was a must-win game to keep their chance to qualify to the National Championship. The game started out at a slower pace with the home team controlling the ball. Unfortunately, our team looked sleepy at the beginning of the game. The home team used this advantage and scored twice; their second goal being scored just 10 seconds before the half time whistle blew.

In the second half, everything turned upside down. The Lady Bobcats stepped onto the field with a new found motivation. Their passes were sharp, and their attacks were tremendous. All of their efforts showed on the scoreboard as well. The freshman forward Adela Racic (Utica, NY) tied the game to 3:3 with a hat-trick.

Two assists were mark by our team captain Amanda Belsito (Brentwood, NY) and Monique Surf (Queens, NY). In these minutes, our team looked confident and well organized. With six minutes before the end of the game, everyone expecting overtime play, Adela scored two more goals assisted by Khadijah Morris (Antigua & Barbuda). Nicolette Weir (Mount Vernon, NY) played her part and brought a much-desired victory to the Lady Bobcats in one of their most crucial games of the season.

Our girls accomplished something unbelievable: they came back after 2:0 and 3:2, and won the game by showing a high team spirit. “We had a serious conversation at half-time,” said Coach Grigorita. “I told the girls that the game is about character and passion. They received the message and in the second half we played a different game, which produced different results. The girls should be proud of this.” This success will significantly help our team in the overall ranking.

The next game will play on Wednesday 10/8 at SUNY Delhi. Let’s wish them luck!!
