St. John’s, Antigua – The Antigua and Barbuda Football Association would like to announce, that CONCACAF, has awarded Antigua and Barbuda to be the pilot nation for its first ever Girls Grassroots 7 V 7 Tournament.
This project is a new initiative by the region’s governing body to encourage more female participation in football, while also keeping with fundamentals of the game.
The 7 V 7 tournament categories are Girls Under-13 which consists of 16 teams from Schools across Antigua and Barbuda and 10 clubs from the ABFA membership who will compete in the open age category.
Also attending the tournament will be heads of female programs from the Leeward Islands Football Association countries which are Montserrat, Anguilla, USVI, BVI, St. Kitts & Nevis and St. Marten.
The CONCACAF Girls Grassroots Tournament will have an opening ceremony at the Multipurpose Cultural Center on Friday, April 10th at 6PM, followed by the tournament kick-off at the Antigua Recreation Ground on Saturday 11th, April at 9AM, with the final matches being played on Sunday 12th April from 9AM to 5PM.
