St. John’s, Antigua – The Antigua & Barbuda national team advances to the second round of the CFU’s Men’s Caribbean Cup after coming from behind to defeat St. Vincent and Grenadines 2 – 1.
After a controlled start in the first half of play, the Bennaboys missed many chances as star striker Peter Byers simply could not hit the target versus a well organized St. Vincent team. But after hitting the post in the early minutes St. Vincent would shock the crowd at the Antigua Recreation Ground with a goal on the 45th minute by Nazir Mcburnette.
As the second half kicked off it seemed that once again the Antigua team would have to come from a goal down to snatch victory.
It was in the 81st minute that Defender Akeem Thomas latched on to a Kieran Murtaugh cross on the back post to head in the equalizing goal. Then deep into stoppage time newly drafted forward Nathaniel Jarvis scored from closed range to give the Bennaboys victory.
The Antigua & Barbuda national team now top group 5 and will advance to the second finishing undefeated with 9 points.
