When Lime Old Road takes the field today in the feature games in the ABFA premier division against Bassa they do so as Champions.

It will be the first time in its history that Old Road will have this honor, thanks mainly to the work of Coach Derrick “Pretty Boy” Edwards and the dedication of his players.

In addition Old Road benefitted from Sugar Ridge Sap’s huge win over Special Security Services All Saints United with a 4-2 win on Sunday.

Bassa is coming off a very disappointing 2-1 defeat to Champion Footwear Hoppers on Sunday and with its position third from the bottom of the table need to win today.

This may be a huge ask for Bassa against the Old Road who surely would not want to lose its first game as national champions.

Bassa may have to contest the playoff against the third and fourth placed teams in the first division to retain its spot in the premiership.

Today is Old Road’s day and the fans will not allow Bassa or anyone else to ‘rain on its parade.’

Edwards may showcase some of his young players but Bassa will have to come good today because Old Road will not hand them a victory, certainly not in the first game as champs.

In game one United will seek redemption against Cool & Smooth Empire after that loss to Byers and Sap on Sunday.

United can move back into second place with a win today.

That would be a good place taking into consideration that the title is already decided.

Empire has booked a spot in the first division but pride alone will force them to compete and play to the best of their abilities.

Empire fans may be calling for the head of Coach Veron “Epilus” Ewdards who vowed that Empire would not be relegated following the sacking of George “Cajawawa” Warner.

Now that Empire is relegated the focus will have to be on next season, starting today against United and a disgruntled bunch of players on both sides.
