Action in Groups 1, 2 and 3 will heat up today in the inaugural Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Caribbean Cup Tournament in Antigua & Barbuda, Puerto Rico and the Turks & Caicos Islands.
In Group 1 St Vincent and the Grenadines face off against the US Virgin Islands at 5:00pm at the Antigua Recreation Grounds, followed by hosts’ Antigua taking on Aruba at the same venue.
Group 2 will feature only one game between the home team Puerto Rico; and Barbados at the Juan .R. Loubriel Stadium.
In Group 3 Bermuda take on the Cayman Islands at 5:00pm and the Turks & Caicos Islands battle St Kitts & Nevis at 7:30pm. Both games will be played on the grounds of the TCIFA National Academy.
Antigua & Barbuda, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Martinique, Bermuda and St Kitts & Nevis come into their games with three points and will look to push for a clear lead in their respective groups.
This is the official qualification tournament in the Caribbean Zone for both the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup and the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Eight teams will feature the four first round group winners, the two best overall second place teams from the four groups 1, 3, 4&5 and the host country Trinidad & Tobago.
Group 4 and 5 will begin their games on May 30 and June 18 respectively.
