Reading midfielder Mikele Leigertwood has taken a big step towards returning from a long-term injury.
The 31-year-old has yet to feature this season after undergoing ankle surgery in the summer, but he got 45 minutes under his belt for the Royals’ Under-21 side in midweek.
“It was a good milestone to get to, having been out for so long,” Leigertwood told the club website.
“The fact that I’ve had this opportunity to get involved with the Under-21s is great – Martin Kuhl, the Under-21s manager has been very good about me coming in and having a game and get me back to where I need to be.
“It felt good – I’ve tried to keep myself in the best possible shape as I can. Nothing can prepare you for that match intensity but I felt okay during the game. I felt fine and hopefully I can push on now.”
