Press Release by Westham F.C
May 19, 2014 – Boobie Alley maintained their unbeaten run into the second week of games in the Point & Villa 7-a-side 20/20 Community Football League at Dredge Bay. Seven games were played in the second week and a total of 33 goals scored. As some teams looked to strengthen their core –we witnessed the return of a few community celebrities and some National Football icons.
President of the ABFA Everton ‘Batow’ Gonsalves stamped his presence on the tournament with his talent for the ball and his verbosity. He dropped the first hat-trick of the weekend as his team held on for a draw against the Beleivers on Thursday. We also welcome back ‘Chimpy’ of Villa fame who represented his old liming block Guinness Block. The game of the weekend emerged from what many thought would have been a walk over when Guinness Block took on Young Uns/Generation Next.
The Malone connection Ndegwa and his nephew Kaiman Samuel – set up Guiness Block early and seemed intent on running over Young Uns with a 3 nil lead at the half. On resumption 15 year old Vaughn Kelly went on a rampage with 2 quick goals, Andrew Thomas netted 1 and Vaughn completed his hat-trick with a final goal. The game ended 4 – 3. Selima Richards the only female in the competition to that time was outstanding particularly in defense and immediately create a rush by the other football playing ladies of the community to sign up.
The second weekend was marred by 3 red cards for un-sports-man-like behaviour as team members got overly excited at the prospects of team defeat. Another was issued for a dangerous tackle. While these were short term negatives on the weekend, the overall spirit was positive, good support from the community and further afield, and excellent camaraderie. We must also extend belated birthday greetings to Carlene who brought her 60th celebrations down to the park with all the ladies.
Games continue Thursday, Saturday and Sunday of the coming week.
The Competition is organised by Point Westham FC and sponsored by Brownies Bakery, Crystal Business Solutions, Cool and Smooth, Beverly’s Hot Spot, Mem’s Ice Pop, Dennis’ Fish Fry and Hon Gaston Browne. Special acknowledgement to the ABFA, APUA, Royal Richards, Banks and Ms Lashley.
