United stays in touch, Bassa beat Farm

Security Services All Saints United kept its title hopes alive with a 3-0 victory over bottom of the table team Bullets in the first game of a double header at the ARG on Wednesday.

In the feature match, Bassa got an easy 2-0 win over Hospitality Services Sea View Farm.

Playing before a small crowd, United made sure that league leaders Lime Old Road remain in striking range by taking maximum points against the upset-minded Bullets.

In its last outing Bullets surprised the league with a win over Bassa to claim its first win of the season.

On Wednesday, Bullets were hoping for more success but it was not to be.

On the other hand Bassa shrugged off its previous defeat to claim maximum points.

The Pigotts men hit a wall against United the team that made it very clear that they are playing for nothing short of the premier division title.

United are currently second behind Old Road who lead the league on 23 points.

The win lifted United to 20 points, three adrift of Old Road, and as many points ahead of defending champions Asot’s Arcade Parham.

Bullets, a bit unlucky on the day got its chances but shot blanks while United was more lucky than good.

In the first 20 minutes Bullets hit the woodwork but that was the closest they got to scoring.

Conversely Roy Gregory’s shot in the 26th minute was blocked by defender Micah Daniel and the ball, instead of bouncing out of danger, hit the woodwork and rolled into the back of the goal.

Goalie Prince Walter had no chance at a save, 1-0 United.

Down a goal at the break Bullets came out firing but again as the ‘bad luck of the draw’ would have it, Walter and his defence would become entangled and Bullets doubled its ‘disadvantage.’

On a United counter attack, Walter attempted to clear a long ball on the edge of his 18 but the hit Daniel who was in pursuit in defence and rolled aimlessly into the open net, 2-0 United.

Substitute Oral “Junior” Roberts ‘nailed Bullets’ coffin shut’ with a header in the 73 rd minute.

Burton who scored a hat trick the last time he played at the ARG served up a floating ball on a long ball from the right flank and Roberts head home past a bewildered Walter.

In the nightcap, Garry Barns scored in the ninth and Darren Stevens hit home twenty minutes from time as Bassa beat Farm to move to 14 points.
